Our destination

Cascata de Mourão, also known as Cascata de Anços, is a serene forested waterfall nestled near the village of Anços in Sintra, Portugal. This hidden gem features:

  • Two tiers: A 10–15m upper waterfall with a large plunge pool and a 3–5m lower cascade over a rocky shelf 311.

  • Lush surroundings: Dense vegetation, remnants of ancient Moorish mills, and tranquil swimming spots 3.

  • Historical significance: The valley was once inhabited by Moors, reflected in the name “Mourão” (meaning “Moors”) 3.

  • Seasonal flow: Best visited in spring or early summer after rainfall, as drought can reduce water flow 311.

So once we visit the place we will take videos, pictures and post them on the whatsapp group which I have created here from last week’s hike. 

Meeting & Transportation

  • Meeting Time: 10:30 AM (15 minutes before bus leaves).

  • Meeting Logistics:

  • Arrival at Trailhead: ~12:17 PM (estimated via Google Maps).

Required Hiking Gear

Prepare for a moderate 8 km One Trip hike with uneven terrain:

  1. Footwear: Waterproof hiking shoes or trail runners (essential for slippery creek crossings) 9.

  2. Clothing: Quick-dry layers, raincoat, and sun hat.

  3. Hydration: 2L water bottle (There could be some shops on the way but not 100% sure).

  4. Trekking poles: Optional but helpful for rocky sections 3.

  5. Backpack: Lightweight pack with snacks, sunscreen, and a reusable cup for tea.

  6. Swimwear: Optional for a dip in the plunge pool 3.
